If you are like me and love a list, you can understand that every minute of the day is precious to get to the bottom of the list. We all work so hard to juggle work, family, and a social life, which can be at the expense of our own self-care activities. So how on earth are we supposed to fit in a 10 – 20 minuet meditation practice…everyday!

When it comes down to it, the answer depends on your own personal lifestyle. You may find that it is more effective to meditated in the morning to get it out the way, or it might be better suited as a way to unwind in the evening after a busy day. There may be an obvious choice as to when the best time to incorporate your daily practice, or if you are still unsure then we can help guide you through a couple of options by breaking down the three most popular times.

  1. Rise and Shine!

Are you wide awake? Sunrise may be a push for some; however, the morning is considered by many to be the best time to practice meditation. It can help to improve focus and concentration, improve productivity, reduce stress and anxiety, and boost your mood. Having your practice at this time also helps to set good intentions for the rest of the day. Many find meditation more effective in the morning because you feel fresh and are less likely to dose off.

  1. Is it lunch time yet?

Do you ever find that you productivity dwindles during the afternoon? Many employers have started to realise the benefits of allowing employees to practice either yoga, meditation, or exercise during the day to counteract this slump. If you are struggling to remain focused or need to take a step back and see things with fresh eyes and need some creative inspiration, then meditating at lunch time could be your thing. Lunch time can be a good time to follow a guided meditation or if you want to take it one step further, you can practice mindfulness exercises whilst eating your lunch time meal.

  1. Sit back and relax!

Congratulations! You have made it to the end of your list for the day and it is time to sit and unwind. Meditating in the evening can help you fall asleep faster and reduce stress and anxiety. If you find that an evening practice is for you then there are a few points to watch out for. Yes, meditation can help relax and calm your mind; however, you may find that you are more likely to dose of after a hard day’s work. If you can stay awake, focused, and alert then why not practice your mediation in the evening.

It is important to note that not every day is the same. So, one day you may find the morning is great, and other times you may find the evening is much better for you. So don’t get dis-heartened if your meditation practice is not consistent to start with. Take baby steps and just bear witness to your progress by acknowledging that sometimes it is not always possible.

As you progress with meditation you may find that consistency becomes second nature. You may also find keeping up a daily practice easier if you set aside a specific time every day to meditate whether that is morning, lunch time or evening.

We have now looked at when is the best time to practice meditation, but why not stay tuned to learn about choosing your safe space to continue your meditation journey.
